Scope and Contents Note

From the Collection:

The collection comprises the records of the Campus Expansion Project and associated Clark offices. The records document building expansion projects at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute from 1956 to 2017 (bulk dates), with a significant focus on the Tadao Ando designed expansion begun in 2001, in addition to building renovations, code compliance updates, and documentation pertaining to the original construction of all campus buildings. Documentation can include architectural plans, preliminary designs, consultant documentation, project team correspondence, certificates, contracts, permits, affidavits, etc.

Naming Note

The Clark Center was originally intended to be a conference center, in addition to housing exhibition galleries and food service areas. However, as plans evolved the conference aspect of the building was phased out. Therefore this building will be referred to as both the Clark Center and its originally intended name, The Visitor, Exhibition, and Conference Center (or, more likely, its short name "VECC"). In fact, more often than not the building is referred to as the "VECC" within this collection, so for the purposes of this Finding Aid the names can be considered interchangeable.
