Scope and Contents of the Records

These records are Beth Carver Wees's working files. Wees first began working on the curatorial staff in 1977 and served as Curator of Decorative Arts from 1986 until 2001, when she left the Clark to be come the Curator of American Decorative Arts at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Her files include records relating to items under consideration for purchase by the Clark; gifts; her work on the catalog, English, Irish and Scottish Silver at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute, published in 1997; and other matters pertaining to the Clark's decorative arts collection.

Custodial History

This collection was in the filing cabinets of the Senior Curator, where they'd been left at the end of Beth Carver Wees's tenure.

Acquisition Information

This material was transferred to the Archives in late 2008. It was believed to be part of Brian Allen's records, but was separated when identified as a separate run of files.
