Scope and Contents

Series I, Clark Administrative Files, includes files that detail the internal functions of The Clark and its employees. The records in this series are unique from those in the General Administrative Files as they were created for use by The Clark and the departments functioning within the Museum.

Subseries A, Academic Programs, contains records for the academic programs active at The Clark. This includes information on both the Research and Academic Program (RAP) and the Fellowship Program. The records include information on the Visiting Scholars Residence, general program details, publications, Symposia and Colloquia, assessment reports, and lists of previous and incoming scholars. Also within the Academic Programs subseries is budgetary information, job postings and descriptions, advisory council details, and collected applications.

Subseries B, Departmental Records, contains files on the departments functioning within the Clark. Departments include Curatorial, Education, Human Resources, Food Service, Marketing, Visitors Services, the Library, and the Director’s Office. Records include budgets, general department details, overall planning information, logistics and statistics related to the Clark's Library, Clark Journal and Annual Reports, details on food service providers, and attendance and admissions surveys. Also included are records produced by the Directors Office, including expense reports, Directors’ Council meeting minutes, information on the Lunder Special Assistant position, and digital correspondence, in the form of email, created by the Director's Office.

Subseries C, Strategic Plans, includes short-term and long-term strategic plan initatives as well as alternative organizational models, budget information, and vision statements for the Clark.

Subseries D, Staffing and Employee Information, include staff statistics, job descriptions, staff surveys, retiree addresses, benefits analysis, housing details, performance review guidelines, and information on a staff retreat. This subseries is permanently closed to research.

Subseries E, Clark Events, contains records for the Clark Prize, Clark Forum, and other Clark hosted events. The Clark Prize, established in 2005, recognizes scholars and writers whose work in art history advances public understanding and appreciation for visual arts in an accessible informed manner. Records of the Clark Prize include nominations and recipient information from 2005 to 2015 and include general articles from and pertaining to the nominated scholars’ work. Records related to the Clark Forums, Clark Conferences, and other educational seminars is also included in this subseries.

Subseries F, General Records, contains records related to computer systems, internal policies, visitors surveys, security reports, media information, letters of thanks, and other correspondence, external affairs, logistic team details, retails assessments, lapsed and current members, foundation lists and management team meeting details. Other documents include the transcript of the Clark's corner stone laying towel inscription, and newsletters distributed to patrons.

Conditions Governing Access

This collection is open to research with some exceptions. Finance, personnel, and exhibition loan records are permanently closed to research. More granular restrictions can be found in the Scope and Contents notes for each respective series.

From the Collection: 72.856 Linear feet (This collection is contained in 161 full Hollinger boxes (15.25"x 5" x 10.25"), 8 half Hollinger boxes (15.25" x 2.5" x 10.25"), and one oversize box (2.5" x 19" x 24"). )
