Scope and Contents
The bulk of this material consists of research, correspondence, drafts, and reference photographs concerning Egbert Haverkamp-Begemann's catalogue, Drawings from the Clark Art Institute. Correspondence regarding acquisitions and files containing research and publicity are also included.

Biographical / Historical
Peter Guille was the first director of the Clark when it opened to the public in 1955. He oversaw the Clark’s development of the conservation program and library, laid the groundwork for the expansion, and successfully increased museum attendance. He retired in October of 1966.
Egbert Havercamp-Begemann (1923-2017) was a Dutch art historian with a specialty in Dutch art of the 17th century. He moved to the United States in 1959, where he did research for Princeton and Harvard Universities, was Curator of Drawings and Prints at Yale until 1974, taught at New York University from 1978 until 1988, and was the Acting Head of Prints and Drawings at the Morgan Library from 2001 to 2004. While working for Yale University, Havercamp-Begemann wrote a catalogue of prints and drawings using the Clark Institute’s collections titled Drawings from the Clark Art Institute. He also aided the Clark in artwork appraisal on occasion.
